11 June 2019American troubadour Terry Lee Hale tours Scotland

Europe-based American singer-songwriter tours Scotland this month, with gigs in Edinburgh, Kirkcaldy, Glasgow, Aberdeen and other locations.

If Hale sings with the voice of a man who sounds as if he’s been around a bit, then that’s a more than fair reflection.

An Army brat, he was born in Texas and went to ten different schools, eventually graduating from high school in Yakima, Washington before moving to San Francisco with his old Stella guitar. From there he criss-crossed the U.S. until, in 1984, he settled in Seattle to look after his daughter.

Being a single parent put his dreams of forming a rock’n’roll band on hold but he became a solo singer-guitarist, playing dark songs in strange guitar tunings. Then a phone call from Germany, offering him a label for his self-released cassette, Oh What a World, brought him to Europe.

Currently living in Marseilles, he’s on his first UK tour having built a sizeable discography and a reputation as a compelling performer of songs full of realism and life experience.
