SNJO trombonist Noushy represents the UK in European orchestra

Scottish National Jazz Orchestra trombonist Anoushka Nanguy has been selected to represent the UK in the Euroradio Jazz Orchestra, which plays concerts in Ljubljana in Slovenia and Zagreb in Croatia this week.

Anoushka, who leads her own groups under the name of Noushy, has been a star of the SNJO’s Nu-Age Sounds concerts over the past two years, contributing compositions as well as trombone. She is a graduate of the jazz course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow and won the Rising Star title in the Scottish Jazz Awards 2021.

The Euroradio Jazz Orchestra is an annual gathering of musicians put together by members of the European Broadcasting Union. It can trace its history back to 1965 and each EBU member is invited to send one musician under the age of 30 to perform with the orchestra. Two concerts are arranged and at least one of them is recorded.

Musicians from countries including France, Croatia, Sweden, Norway, Czech Republic, Germany and Poland are included in this year’s iteration of the orchestra. A live video stream of the Zagreb concert will be available on the Croatian broadcaster's Facebook page.
