14 June 2019Singer-songwriter Odette Michell to play Dunfermline concert
Singer-songwriter Odette Michell, whose career has been moving at pace since she released her debut EP, By Way of Night, early last year, plays Dunfermline Folk Club on Wednesday, June 19.
Born in Yorkshire with an Irish background, she grew up in a musical family and took up guitar at the age of fifteen. Within a year, inspired by the resurgence in popularity of folk and acoustic music, she began writing her own songs. By Way of Night followed and found favour with folk radio programmes and festival programmers, resulting in Odette’s first appearance at the mammoth Cambridge Folk Festival.
Her singing style has been likened to Sandy Denny and early Joni Mitchell and she accompanies herself with warm, able fingerpicking.
She released her first full-length album, The Wildest Rose earlier this year and having opened for musicians including the legendary Martin Carthy and the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award Nominees Ninebarrow, she is currently on her first headlining tour.
