20 August 2019Stars line up for Linlithgow folk feast in November

Peerless English troubadour Chris Wood, folk royalty Martin and Eliza Carthy and harp and fiddle virtuosi Catriona McKay & Chris Stout are all set to appear for Red Door, the music promotions that take place in St Peter’s Church on Linlithgow High Street during November.

Wood, whose Hollow Point, a deeply affecting song about the fatal shooting of Brazilian electrician Jean Charles de Menezes, won the Best Original Song award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2011, returns to St Peter’s following a sold-out appearance at the beautiful, Greek-style church late last year.

Father and daughter, Martin and Eliza Carthy bring – respectively – almost sixty years of tailoring folk ballads to a unique guitar style and a lifetime’s immersion in folk music to St Peter’s in a concert that has been rescheduled following its postponement due to family ill-health during the summer and has already sold out.

And in a special acoustic performance, Catriona McKay and Chris Stout share their keen, spontaneous musical understanding, a kaleidoscope of tonal colour and knife-edge sense of adventure with the audience at close quarters in a venue that is as intimate as it is attractively appointed.

“We’re really pleased to offer such a high quality programme to celebrate the first year of Red Door promotions,” says Robin Connelly, who programmes and presents the Red Door concerts with a small team of volunteers. “Being able to experience all of these musicians in St Peter’s, we feel, is a fantastic opportunity. As music fans, we’d be there even if we weren’t involved in the organisation and we’re all looking forward to welcoming people who are all stars in their own right.”

Red Door promotes roots music and jazz in St Peter’s and will be announcing its 2020 programme very soon. For tickets and further information, contact 07849 509407 or email jazzatstjames18@gmail.com
