One of Europe’s leading jazz festivals, Jazz sous les Pommiers in Normandy, has announced its 2020 programme.
Held in the modest-sized town of Coutances, which becomes jazz central for the event’s duration, the festival is now in its 39th year and its latest iteration includes musicians from Armenia, Beirut, the Gambia, Portugal and the UK as well as from France and the US.
The opening concert on May 15 features trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf and over the next eight days, pianists Tigran Hamasyan and Kenny Barron, singer and kora virtuoso Sona Jobarteh, fado singer Ana Moura, Scandinavian trio Rymden and saxophone-trumpet partnership David Liebman and Randy Brecker’s all-star quintet are among those appearing in a packed programme.
